I took the baby kittens to the vet today (Argyle Veterinary Hospital, woop!) to be checked out and given their first dose of dewormer. They've been officially sexed so I can now announce their names!

They are the Land Before Time kittens! From left to right above: Littlefoot (grey and white, female), Spike (black tuxedo, male), Ducky (tiger tabby, male), Petrie (all black, male...

Yesterday a neighbor and I were able to trap 5 baby kittens and their feral mama! The little family will get to grow up inside in a foster home until the kittens are ready for adoption. Mama will be spayed and returned to her colony. Here's our little week old babies.

Finding kittens always presents a (very cute) problem when working with feral cats. If you can, you want to ge...

Well today was a bit of a day! After learning about three new cats yesterday, I now have them all trapped! I brought Iris to TCAP this morning, and as I arrived a neighbor texted that she was able to trap this pretty boy (Basil) who I'd never seen before on camera or in person. So I got Iris checked in then went back home and picked up Basil and brought him back to TCAP. Lucki...

One of the interesting things I’ve been able to learn through my wildlife cameras is that even though these ferals all technically belong to the same colony and will breed and mix with each other, there are actually a number of sub-groups within in the colony. I’m calling them North (N), Southeast (SE), Southwest (SW), RB and TL. I also have a few floater cats that I can’t qui...

It's Sunday and that means Trapping Day! The TCAP in Fort Worth (my favorite location) only guarantees feral surgeries on Mondays and Thursdays, so I like to get a start on Sunday to have some to bring in on Monday. I typically only trap one round a week because I have to keep them for a few days during their recovery. I'm working on getting the resources to have multiple roun...

Peanut and Zinnia are the first two cats trapped in 2018!

 Zinnia

 Peanut

Turns out they are both girls and they both did so well. I always like to trap in pairs so they have a buddy through the whole process. After TCAP, the girls got to recover together in a kennel in my garage for 48 hours. They were released on Thursday and seem to have settled back in!

One year ago today, my sweet feral Sunflower gave birth to five kittens only hours after I trapped her. Luckily we knew she was pregnant and she was being fostered by my sweet friend Jeri when it happened. They spent their first four weeks with Jeri, then the next 4 weeks with me before being adopted by three wonderful families! In celebration of their happy stories, here are...

It's time for an update on all the cats living at the colony! I've had the camera out for about five days and from that and information from neighbors, I have put together a little census of the colony. As of now, there are 18-20 cats I'm concerning myself with. A few do not spend much time with the colony but they have been brought to my attention by other neighbors so I am i...

I have recently received some questions about feral cats, what TNR is and why we do it so I thought I'd do a little FAQ post to try and explain. If you have any questions not addressed here, please ask in the comments or in an email!

It's been about a year since I first started working with the feral cat colony in my neighborhood, and it's nearly time for me to return. In the next few weeks I will set my camera back up and get back to work! I'll start posting regularly again when that happens.

In the meantime, I thought I would give a few updates on my TNR and fostering adventures. Sunflower's kittens all...
